The movie has fewer moral themes than other スタジオジブリ movies, but still captures the childhood fantastical whimsy that 宮崎駿 puts in his movies! This is one of the few movies I have seen many times in English and in Japanese, which makes each rewatch better and better as I am more familiar with the context of the language. One particularly interesting thing I noticed is the change in the formality of language between the main characters as the movie progresses, something I've never noticed before. One of the things I struggle with the most is what level of formality to use when as I can be overeager or extremely hesitant to switch into casual language when it may be appropriate. This is one of the few movies I feel confident enough to watch in Japanese only and still understand it.
